“Kölsche Chandelier” is part of “11 Kränze” exhibition at Design Post in Cologne during idd / Orgatec 2026.

In Cologne, eleven is more than a number. So it came as no surprise when our friends at Kosmoform invited ten Cologne-based design studios to join them in an exhibition under one theme: “A traditional Cologne beer carrier newly interpreted by 11 design studios.”

The Kölschkranz comes in many formats and materials, but the principle is always the same: a ring of glasses around a central handle, carried by the waiter’s hand. We read this as a pendant luminaire, and from there it was a short step to the chandelier. The result is a slightly luxurious object that still works as a fully functional beer carrier. 
We developed two versions: a chandelier as a large, two-level object with 16 lamps / glasses, designed to hang and a battery-powered Kölschkranz: dimensioned for actual use at the table, with battery-powered lamps. 

The results are on show during Orgatec  2026 at the Design Post Köln.
